What are stem cells?
These are cells which all other cells with specialized functions are generated.  They divide and become new stem cells or specialized cells such as bone, tendon and cartilage.  No other cell has this ability to generate new cells.

What is stem cell therapy in orthopaedics and how does it work?
It is the replacement of diseased or injured cells with stem cells. Stem cells are grown from various sources such as teeth, blood, bone marrow and umbilical cord. These are then transplanted to the various injured areas such as the cartilage, tendons and ligaments. It has a marked anti inflammatory effect and has been used in regenerative medicine.
